The walk initially passes through Coed Cyrnol, a woodland Local Nature Reserve of Scots pine, broadleaf woodland and scrub with a diversity of wildlife and birdlife including red squirrels and resident coal tit, long-tailed tit, tree creeper, tawny owl and woodpeckers, with the occasional passing crossbill in the summer. How to get to Church Island, Anglesey: cross to Anglesey on the A5 using the Menai Suspension Bridge, take first exit on the roundabout, pass Waitrose on the left and park in Coed Cyrnol car park (GR SH 554 719). Location: south of Menai Bridge, Anglesey A grade II listed war memorial sits on the highpoint of the island at approximately 10 metres. The main feature of the island is the fifteenth-century St Tysilio’s Church, it’s churchyard with headstones of an eclectic mix of past lives, and ancient yews. Overview: a small, hidden island that sits tranquilly to the side of the whirlpools and eddies of The Swellies of the Menai Strait between Anglesey and mainland Wales.
